嘉兴市是中国东部沿海地区与上海接邻的一个城市。位于上海、江苏、浙江三省(市)交界处，东北距上 嘉兴经济技术开发区 海市90公里，西南距杭州市90公里，北距苏州70公里，东南距嘉兴港40公里，处于中国最具经济活力的 长江三角洲 和沿海经济带的中心位置。嘉兴经济(技术)开发区位于浙江省嘉兴市市区,是一个以发展工业为主的城市新区。 嘉兴经济开发区位于沪杭和乍嘉苏两条高速公路的交会点，公路、铁路、航空和航运均十分便利，既面向中国经济最为发达的上海经济圈和广阔的内陆市场，同时又面向海外市场。驱车从嘉兴经济开发区出发，到附近主要城市上海、杭州、苏州和港口、机场的时间均在60分钟到90分钟之间。 开发 区内现有工业企业1000多家，其中外商投资企业300多家，合同利用外资25亿美元，实际利用外资超过10亿美元，形成了以 汽车零部件 、精密机械、 电子信息 、食品加工和高档纺织为主的产业特色。 2007年，全区完成和实现的主要经济社会发展指标为: 工业生产总值 :197.75亿元; 进出口总额 :16.5亿美元;其中进口:5.68亿美元，出口:10.82亿美元; 合同利用外资:3.2亿美元; 实际到位外资:1.7亿美元。
